City of Savannah

SG_Savannah_logoIn the early years of CHSA, the City of Savannah’s Department of Housing provided staff support for the operations and governance. Then and now, CHSA board members and leaders served on the loan committee that allocates funding for projects.

As the vision for CHSA’s mission grew, the CHSA Board in 2002 commissioned a strategic plan. As a result, CHSA hired its first staff members in 2002.

The Housing Services Department has continued to collaborate with CHSA to leverage all of the funding resources needed to support our mission.

The City established the Savannah Affordable Housing Fund (SAHF) in 2012, and named CHSA as the administrator of the fund. This relationship is governed by a memorandum of understanding (MOU). The City of Savannah provides in-kind office support to CHSA for completing the administrative tasks related to the SAHF.

Savannah Affordable Housing Fund

The Savannah Affordable Housing Fund provides resources for construction financing, home repair and down payment assistance.

The Civis Foundation

The Civis Foundation (Savannah) partners with CHSA on the Cuyler/Brownville Initiative. Civis provides funding opportunities for landlords, property owners and developers creating affordable housing in the Cuyler/Brownville neighborhood in Savannah.

The Land Bank Authority

The mission of the Chatham County & The City of Savannah Land Bank Authority is to strategically acquire vacant, abandoned, tax delinquent properties and to facilitate the revitalization of those properties to a productive use in a manner consistent with local government plans and priorities.

CHSA works with the Land Bank Authority on multiple projects each year, and relies on their expertise in neighborhood revitalization.
