About the Program

The CHSA Home Repair Assistance Program offers small home repair grants or loans to eligible homeowners in Chatham County. We provide assistance for necessary exterior and system repairs to ensure your home remains safe, functional, and habitable. This program is not intended for whole house renovations or extensive remodeling projects.

 Eligible Repairs

We focus on repairs that address essential exterior or system issues, including:

  • Roof Replacement
  • Exterior Surface Repair/Painting
  • Plumbing Repairs
  • Electrical Repairs
  • HVAC Repairs
  • Code Violation Corrections
  • Ramp installation or repair
  • Weatherization Repairs/Improvements
  • Structural Improvements
  • Additional repairs as approved by CHSA

Repairs are typically limited to one or two key issues.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Home Ownership: Must be the homeowner and occupy the property as your primary residence.
  • Property Location: The property must be located within Chatham County (property within Savannah city limits is not eligible).
  • Property Condition: The home must be habitable upon completion of repairs.

  • Home Ownership: Must be the homeowner and occupy the property as your primary residence.
  • Property Location: The property must be in Garden City or Port Wentworth. The Property Identification Number (PIN) must start with 6 for Garden City or 7 for Port Wentworth.
  • Property Condition: The home must be habitable upon completion of repairs.
  • Household income must be at or below the income limits in the chart below.

  • The applicant must own and occupy the house, mobile home, or owner-occupied duplex as their primary residence.
  • Heirs who have occupied the home as their primary residence for at least 12 months may be eligible, provided they submit acceptable documentation.
  • The applicant must be current on tax payments and fire fee payments.
  • The maximum funding amount is $5,000.
